Top 5 Motorcycle Routes in Morocco You Need to Ride

Morocco is one of those rare countries where every road feels like it was made for two wheels. From high-altitude mountain passes to endless desert straights, the variety is staggering — and the scenery never stops delivering. Here are the five routes we recommend most to riders who rent with us in Marrakech.

1. Tizi n’Tichka — The Atlas Classic At 2,260 metres, Tizi n’Tichka is Morocco’s highest paved mountain pass — and one of the most spectacular rides in North Africa. The road from Marrakech climbs through dramatic switchbacks, Berber villages and jaw-dropping views before descending toward Ouarzazate. It’s accessible, well-paved and endlessly photogenic. A must on any Morocco itinerary.

2. The Draa Valley — Gateway to the Sahara South of Ouarzazate, the road follows the Draa River through a landscape of palm groves, ancient kasbahs and remote villages. The further south you ride, the more the desert takes over. This is the road that leads to Zagora and, eventually, to the edge of the Sahara. Long, flowing and deeply beautiful.

3. Dades Gorge & Todra Gorge — The Canyon Loop Two of Morocco’s most dramatic gorges, connected by a winding road through the High Atlas foothills. The Dades Gorge offers tight, technical switchbacks that riders love — locally known as the “monkey fingers” for their shape. Todra is narrower and more vertical, with walls rising over 300 metres on each side. Ride both in a single day.

4. The Road to Merzouga — Sahara Straight As you approach Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes, the landscape flattens into an otherworldly expanse of sand and rock. The road becomes ruler-straight, the horizon disappears and the silence is absolute. Arriving at the dunes on a motorcycle as the light turns golden is an experience you simply don’t forget.

5. The Atlantic Coast — Essaouira & Beyond Head west from Marrakech and you’ll reach the Atlantic coast in a few hours. The road to Essaouira rolls through argan forests and wide open plains before arriving at one of Morocco’s most charming coastal towns. The coast road north offers sweeping ocean views, fresh seafood stops and a completely different side of the country.
