Morocco is an incredible destination for motorcycle travel — but like any adventure, a little preparation goes a long way. Whether it’s your first time riding here or you’re a seasoned traveller returning for another loop, here’s what you need to know before you go.
The Best Time to Ride Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the sweet spots. Temperatures are comfortable, the light is extraordinary and the roads are dry. Summer works well in the mountains but can be brutal in the desert — temperatures regularly exceed 45°C in the south. Winter is surprisingly rideable in the lower regions, though mountain passes can close with snow.
What to Pack Travelling light is the key. A top case handles most of your essentials — add side cases if you’re going for two weeks or planning to carry more gear. Essentials include: lightweight riding jacket with armour, summer and cooler-weather layers, sun protection, hydration and a good offline map app. We recommend Maps.me or iOverlander loaded with your route before you leave.
Licences & Documents You’ll need a valid motorcycle licence (category A) with at least 3 years’ validity. An international driving permit is recommended alongside your national licence. Bring your passport — you’ll need it for accommodation and the occasional checkpoint.
Fuel & Range Fuel stations are plentiful on main roads but can be sparse in remote areas, particularly in the deep south. Always fill up when you see a station in rural regions and carry a rough idea of the distance to the next one. Our roadbooks include fuel stop recommendations on every route.
Riding Style & Road Conditions Moroccan roads are generally well-maintained on main routes. However, expect loose gravel on corners, animals crossing without warning and local drivers who treat road markings as suggestions. Ride at a pace that gives you time to react, and enjoy the journey rather than rushing the distance.
Closing : The more prepared you are, the more you can relax and focus on what matters — the riding. If you have questions about routes, gear or logistics, our team is always happy to help before your trip.
